Seraphic Preparatory And Homeschool is a virtual private education school based out of Marion County for grades Kindergarten through Twelfth (K-12) providing legal covering and enrolling families across Florida State. Below you will find three (3) homeschool options outlined in Florida State statutes that you may decide upon for you, your children and your families educational journey. There is no correct answer, and it may be changed as necessary- choose the option that fits you’re family and move with you’re best foot forward!
Homeschool: (http://www.leg.state.fl.us/statutes/index.cfm?App_mode=Display_Statute&URL=1000-1099/1002/Sections/1002.01.html ) Parents must provide one-time notice to the local superintendent (
LETTER OF INTENT: https://fpea.com/sites/fpea.com/files/page/file_attachment/LOI%20-%202019.pdf), maintain a portfolio of their children’s work, and have their children assessed annually (by standardized test or portfolio evaluation). There are no parent qualification, hours of instruction, or subject requirements. The assessments must be turned in to the local superintendent; if students are not making suitable educational progress parents will have a year to correct deficiencies.
Private School/Umbrella/600: (http://www.leg.state.fl.us/statutes/index.cfm?mode=View%20Statutes&SubMenu=1&App_mode=Display_Statute&Search_String=1002.42&URL=1000-1099/1002/Sections/1002.42.html ) Parents may enroll their children in a private school created to serve as a homeschool “umbrella” school. Parents must provide 180 days of instruction and maintain attendance and immunization records. There are no notification (unless previously enrolled elsewhere- Notice of Termination: https://fpea.com/sites/fpea.com/files/page/file_attachment/Termination%20Letter_0.pdf) parent qualification, subject, or assessment requirements unless specified by the private School.
Private tutor: (https://www.flsenate.gov/Laws/Statutes/2012/1002.43 ) Parents with teaching certificates may homeschool under the private tutor option. Parents must provide 180 days of instruction and maintain basic records, but there are no notification, subject, or assessment requirements.
